UK company prevents ex-franchisee copying system

12 June 2020 - Water Babies International has obtained an interim injunction in Wellington against a former franchisee and her cousin who established a business with a similar name, systems, locations and schedule. It's the latest example of franchisors taking court action to protect their Intellectual Property, and a reminder to franchisees that they can't just change the name and carry on in the same business. We will look at other recent restraint of trade cases in the next issue of Franchise New Zealand magazine.
