The opportunity

Kokodak began in 2021 when the first store opened in Ormiston, Auckland. Since then, the brand has grown rapidly, with more than 19 stores now operating across New Zealand and further locations planned for 2026.

The name Kokodak comes from the Korean onomatopoeia for the sound a chicken makes. While the name is playful, the mission is serious - to bring authentic Korean fried chicken and popular K-food favourites to New Zealand, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a consistent operating system.

The taste that takes two fries to get right

Kokodak’s signature product is its hand-battered, double-fried chicken, creating the distinctive crunch that customers have come to know and love. The menu includes Original, Seasoned, Soy Garlic, Hot Spicy, White Onion along with popular Korean dishes including chicken rice bowls, tteokbokki and cheese dogs.

The combination of authentic Korean flavours, fresh ingredients and a broad menu has helped Kokodak establish a strong following as interest in Korean food continues to grow across New Zealand.

The five values behind every store:

Authenticity: staying true to genuine Korean recipes and flavours

Quality: 100% fresh, New Zealand-sourced ingredients

Innovation: constantly developing and improving the menu

Community: a welcoming, inclusive store culture that grows with its neighbourhood

Sustainability: minimising waste and operating responsibly

'Rather than reacting to short-term market pressure, we focus on the fundamentals - protecting quality, keeping our supply chain stable, and keeping store operations simple. That's what lets our franchisees run their stores with confidence.'  (John / Director), Kokodak NZ

Looking for Franchise Partners to join us

Kokodak offers reasonable set-up costs, a trend-forward store design, and structured operational training. Head office is focused on giving new franchisees the confidence of a proven, stable system from day one. Enquiries are welcome from anywhere in New Zealand, excluding areas where a store is already established.

Support and training

Head office continues to support franchisees once the store is operating, including ongoing on-site assistance and operational guidance.

You don't need to have extensive experience in the hospitality industry to become a Kokodak franchisee. What we are looking for are people with the commitment, energy and passion to build a successful local business and become part of the Kokodak network.

A growing New Zealand brand

Kokodak has continued to expand beyond its Auckland beginnings, with stores now operating in locations including Hamilton, the Bay of Plenty, Wellington, Christchurch and Palmerston North.

The Chartwell store recently celebrated its grand opening, with further locations continuing to roll out through 2026.

New stores are scheduled to open in Auckland and Nelson in 2026, with further opportunities available across New Zealand.

For Kokodak, expansion is about more than simply increasing the number of stores. The focus is on building a strong franchise network where each franchisee has the systems, supply and support required to operate with confidence.

The brand is now looking for franchise partners who want to take Kokodak into new communities and be part of its next stage of growth.

What do our franchisees say?

“Everything was clear and simple from the very start. The training head office provided, along with the ongoing on-site support, gave me real confidence running the store.”

Jane Song, Kokodak Manukau

“What customers tell us most is how good ‘Honey Soy Chicken’ tastes. I think it’s the fresh ingredients and the consistency that keep people coming back.”

Sonia Shin, Kokodak Otahuhu
