July 2019 – One of New Zealand’s best-known home-grown franchise brands is gradually disappearing from our streets as Fastway Couriers rebrands

Aramex bought Fastway in 2016

In 2016, the Napier-based award-winning Fastway Couriers franchise was acquired by Aramex, a leading global provider of comprehensive logistics and transportation solutions.

With a presence in 65 countries worldwide and expertise in international and domestic delivery, freight forwarding, logistics, e-business solutions and online shopping services, Aramex recognised both the potential of the Fastway system and New Zealand as a developing market.

Since joining the Aramex family, the local teams and knowledge have remained, with 18 Regional Franchises spanning from Northland down to Southland and a fleet of over 250 Courier Franchisees throughout the country. However, new opportunities have also surfaced to tap into Aramex’s leading technology, systems and innovation.

Fastway Couriers New Zealand CEO, Scott Jenyns, says the time was right to adopt the Aramex name with the significant rise in the parcel movements across the globe due to the explosion in e-commerce and new technology advancements.

‘We are retaining our unique franchise business model but are gaining a global mindset with access to new innovations, new technologies and new shipping destinations.

‘This is a major step forward for our local franchise operators but also for many New Zealand businesses that either export products to the world or import to New Zealand.

‘We believe this name change will also better align New Zealand with the Aramex international business strategy and extend the New Zealand service offering to the movement of envelope sized parcels to large shipping containers.’

The familiar Fastway blue and red vans are being replaced with red and white as the company rebrands to Aramex New Zealand.

‘Rest assured, there won’t be any disruptions to our service. Aramex New Zealand will still have the same locally-owned and operated Regional Franchisees and friendly couriers,’ says Scott.

Fastway Couriers was founded by Bill McGowan in Hawkes Bay in 1983 and has twice been named New Zealand Franchise System of the Year. Fastway franchisees have also won several titles in the Westpac New Zealand Franchise Awards.
