21 June 2018 – A new design cup being launched at The Coffee Club this month draws more attention to KidsCan

Artist Leala Leati with her winning design, appearing soon at The Coffee Club outlets all over New Zealand

A budding artist from Glen Eden Primary School in Auckland has won a nationwide competition to refresh the design on The Coffee Club fluffy cups. The artwork was selected from across New Zealand, beating other entries from 30 schools supported by KidsCan. The competition itself ran in November last year, with the new design hitting stores this month.

The winner was Leala Leati, who was just 10 years old when she drew the winning design which depicts a vibrant summer camping scene. Leala received a $300 voucher from The Coffee Club and will get to see her design on fluffy cups around the country.

The Coffee Club fluffies are free at all stores; however, The Coffee Club does encourage donations to KidsCan in return. On average, the franchise is raising $1000 per month across all stores.

‘We have always had a fluffy cup for the kids – they love coming in with their parents and having their own hot drink,’ explains The Coffee Club director, Brad Jacobs. ‘After the success of our KidsCan Christmas Cup artwork competition, which we hold every year, we saw an opportunity to do something similar for the fluffy cups.

‘We’d had the same design for three years and decided it was the perfect time to get the kids involved in refreshing it. The designs are always so varied and colourful – they work perfectly on the cups. It’s great for the kids as well. They enjoy getting creative and having the opportunity to win a prize, as well as the pride that goes with seeing their design out in the real world.’

The Coffee Club New Zealand has been involved in a number of campaigns and initiatives with KidsCan including The Big Night In telethon back in 2009, the Mystery Envelope Appeal, Christmas Crackers, Campbell Live Lunchbox Day Appeal and KidsCan Online Auctions. The brand has donated more than $100,000 to KidsCan, KidsCan partner schools and kids in that time.
