WFC shares information to help franchises grow

The latest meeting of the World Franchise Council took place in Bologna, Italy, in May and attracted representatives from almost all 45 member countries. FANZ chairman Brad Jacobs reports that the issue of employment legislation increasingly looking to target franchisors as joint employers is becoming a concern in Europe and parts of Asia, as well as the US and Australia.

‘This is causing a lot of national associations to dip into their reserves to present the case for franchisee independence, making it more important than ever for ethical franchises to support their national association,’ says Brad. ‘That applies just as much in New Zealand, so we urge franchisors large and small to contact us and discuss membership.’

Each delegate also presented a report on the state of franchising in their own country. ‘There is a lot of valuable information in these reports, so if you are looking to expand overseas then they provide a great place to start,’ says Brad. ‘We also have contacts on the ground in each country, so contact the Franchise Association office to find out more.’
