Becoming a driving instructor is only the first step to running a successful franchise, you can also train to deliver driver training for fleets and businesses and to deliver the AA’s NZTA approved Defensive Driving Course.

There is strong, experienced and value-adding franchise support from the Head Office team always at hand and you will also be assigned a local Regional Coordinator to help you grow your business and offer advice.

Skills & training

To teach people how to drive on a public road for financial or commercial gain, you must have a current driving instructor endorsement on your driving licence. This is called an ‘I’ endorsement. We successfully train many new driving instructors every year. We are the market leader in driver instructor training. We provide full advisory support throughout your training and guide you in taking the first step in your new chosen career. The Driving Instructor Course incorporates the formal NZQA recognised qualifications and will prepare you for the challenges in passing the theory and practical exams and will also develop and improve your teaching, coaching and business skills. 

Once ‘I’ endorsed and running your own franchise, the AA Driving School offers a face-to-face induction program with in-vehicle mentoring. You will be supported through annual professional development and auditing with your Regional Coordinator.
