The Coffee Club baking up a storm for SPCA Cupcake Day
last updated 30/08/2018
30 August 2018 – The Coffee Club's cupcake sales help raise lots of dough for the SPCA

SPCA Cupcake Day, which is in its tenth year, officially took place on Monday 6 August, but 63 cafes and restaurants in The Coffee Club franchise raised funds for an entire week to help animals in need. On top of the funds raised by local volunteers across New Zealand, sales of special cupcakes at The Coffee Club in that week helped raise a further $30,000.
A cheque for the funds raised by the popular café brand were presented to the SPCA this week. “We are very proud to support Cupcake Day and to be able to help the SPCA,” says Andy Lucas, Director of The Coffee Club. “Buying a cupcake is a pretty nice way to do something good, and we are really pleased that so many people purchased one this year.”
SPCA CEO, Andrea Midgen said that the day was an important success in their efforts to stop animals from being neglected. “The funds raised by Cupcake Day help keep the SPCA going. We can provide vital care to animals that need it, and work towards improving things in the future. We are very grateful for all the support we receive from our volunteers and sponsors like The Coffee Club for their fund raising efforts.”
Supporting a good cause
According to the 2017 Survey of Franchising, almost a quarter of all franchises in New Zealand contribute over $100,000 each to charities every year. We explored the reasons behind The Coffee Club’s support for Cupcake Day in this article last year.
SPCA CEO, Andrea Midgen welcomes the support for the event, and encourages everyone to get involved. ‘With the help of The Coffee Club and its customers, the SPCA will be able to provide vital care to neglected animals across New Zealand. As well as saving lives, the money from cupcake sales will be used to care for the animals in our shelters as they wait to find their forever home.’
Now in its tenth year, SPCA Cupcake Day is the SPCA’s fun, community-driven annual fundraiser, with all proceeds going towards protecting animals in need. Since 2009, supporters of the charity have raised more than $2.3million through the baking and selling of cupcakes and other treats.
