Buy a business - buy a franchise

Whether you’ve owned a business before or are new to self-employment, if you’re a budding entrepreneur then one of the options you have to consider these days is whether to buy a franchise.
Starting up a new business from scratch is a massive risk – even for experienced business people. Buying a franchise, on the other hand, means you’ll get the systems, support and marketing you need to help you get off to the best possible start.
Alternatively, when you look at buying an existing business you’ll find many of the most attractive business propositions are franchises. And, unlike a ‘normal’ business where the owner sells it to you then walks away after a minimal hand-over period, you’ll have proper systems to follow and help to build your business to new heights.
Of course, buying a franchise* doesn’t suit everyone. Some people won’t touch a franchise because of what they believe, or because they know someone who had a bad experience with a franchise once. And some franchises truly are better developed than others. But if you really want to find a good business opportunity with a real future, you owe it to yourself to find out more. After all, there are already over 20,000 franchised small businesses in New Zealand and they include some of the best-known names in the country.
On this website, you’ll find a mix of new opportunities and existing businesses for sale. There are profiles of franchises and franchisees, news about trends and developments and, above all, advice about choosing and taking up a franchise.
The team behind Franchise New Zealand has many years of franchising experience. We’ve worked for franchisors and franchisees, small franchises and big ones, new franchises and start-ups. But we’re not consultants or brokers. All the information on this website is free – you can even send for a free magazine or read it online.
So if you want to get the facts about franchising, its advantages and disadvantages, you’re in the right place. Here are some suggestions for where to go next:

*By the way, it’s actually wrong to talk about ‘buying’ a franchise, although the term is often used. When you get into a franchise, you are granted the right to use that company’s brand and systems for a certain period. Your business is operating the franchise – but you never actually own the franchise itself. It’s just one of the differences that make it important to learn as much as you can about franchising before you start, and to take proper legal advice!"
