Seriously Addictive Mathematics (S.A.M) was founded in 2010 by Samuel Chia and Lau Chin Loong. Recognising the challenges faced by children in school systems with large class sizes and a one-size-fits-all approach, they created a learning programme to help children learn maths via the Singapore Math curriculum, delivered through personalised learning in a small class size.
After 3 years of research and development and a successful 2013 launch in Singapore, Samuel and Chin Loong created an easy-to-use complete business system that franchisees can implement quickly, with access to comprehensive training and support.
The strong franchise support system has also enabled S.A.M to expand rapidly into 20 international markets, and to win multiple business awards and parenting awards in various countries.
What sets S.A.M apart is its world-class curriculum. Developed by former school teachers and textbook publishers, the S.A.M programme uses both the coaching approach and Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) methodology to build a strong mathematical foundation and positive learning attitude in children.
S.A.M complements all school curricula, and supports students for both reinforcement and enrichment.
The New Zealand opportunity
New Zealand is the most franchised country in the world and its mature franchise sector still has plenty of room for proven international concepts to grow with the right people behind brands that are new to the country.
The total turnover of the franchise sector was estimated to be $73.4 billion in 2024 (including motor vehicle sales and fuel retail), equivalent to 11% of New Zealand’s GDP and representing a substantial 25.5% growth in the sector since 2021. This expansion points to the robustness of the franchise model and its ability to thrive even in uncertain times.
If you have access to the necessary capital and have the skills to make it work, buying a national master franchise can offer a truly valuable business opportunity where you can use your own or your organisation’s skills to the full with the backing of a proven business system.
As well as running a pilot operation in New Zealand, the master franchisee will be responsible for recruiting other single-unit and multi-unit franchisees. The master franchisee will be supported by the head franchisor in offering training and system support to other franchisees within New Zealand, and maintaining the core values and culture of S.A.M's internationally-renowned brand.
The upfront fee grants exclusive rights to develop the territory, and includes initial business and curriculum training, curriculum materials, centre setup guidance, and operational support from HQ.
Master franchisees typically operate at least one centre as a flagship to demonstrate successful operations and support franchise development.
Ongoing revenue is generated from a share of unit franchise fees, royalties collected from franchisees within the territory, and revenue from centre operations.
Testimonials from other S.A.M Master Franchisees
Toro Roan, Master Franchisee, California, USA:
Being part of the S.A.M family has been an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling experience. With its robust curriculum and strong franchise support system, we are grateful for the opportunity to open multiple centres and share the benefits of the S.A.M Singapore Math programme with our parents and students.
Erminio Zappitelli, Master Franchisee, Quebec and Ontario, Canada:
S.A.M is a fantastic business opportunity for individuals passionate about educating young minds. Its distinctive curriculum and approach clearly set it apart from competitors, and we are seeing the meaningful impact it has on the children we teach. While profitability is essential in any business, owning an S.A.M franchise is also about making a difference. The S.A.M team is attentive, supportive, and always available to address our questions and needs.
