Bird On A Wire strives to be NZ’s number one local chicken restaurant where good vibes are free range only! Our Bird HQ team drives this culture by ensuring all partners and team members are trained and ready to provide the best customer service possible.
Bird On A Wire was started in 2012 by four friends with the aim of creating a delicious, healthy takeaway alternative, and to do so by capitalising on a category that was poorly served in New Zealand, chicken. The plan being to become everyone’s neighbourhood chicken shop.
Since its inception, the business has grown and changed immensely. We have 7 restaurants in New Zealand owned and operated by franchisees that are passionate about food and align with our vision of being the #1 quick casual dining brand.
Following the success of the Takapuna restaurant which incorporated capacity for both dine in and takeaway trade the business decided to focus on the larger format sites with a dual offering as their primary strategy.
Bird has deliberately positioned itself squarely at the forefront of the move towards healthy, ethical and convenient dining options. Today’s fast casual market is becoming increasingly competitive, and values focused, and we have gone to great lengths to build and position a business model that will thrive under the changing marketing conditions.
This market will continue to grow as consumers are better educated and aware of the impact of their purchasing decisions on their health and the environment. Presently the niche is poorly served and Bird has built a strong brand and product in this space. Bird is positioned to capitalise on this shift in consumer sentiment.
Skills & training
We know that our most vital asset at Bird are our people which is why we deliver ongoing support and training to our partners and team members.
You will have the support of a leadership team with over 50 years combined experience in hospitality, franchising, and business We are part of a hospitality franchising group who have specialized in hospitality for over 13 years in New Zealand. We have existing relationships with landlords of all the major shopping centres, leasing agents and business brokers across NZ and Australia. Bird has a huge social media following (over 12,000 followers on Instagram) and strong brand recognition nationwide.
At Bird, we believe the key to success is having the right capability. This capability includes having the required skills and knowledge about our systems and processes. All partners are required to complete a comprehensive training program. We encourage new partners to bring their life experiences to the table while providing the capabilities necessary for success. This, in turn, reinforces and protects every franchisee’s investment in the Bird brand.
Our training program includes:
- The Bird On A Wire 12 week in-store training programme designed to give a new franchisee a broad understanding of each aspect of the business
- Store Opening Team: assists during the initial trading period of your first store. The store opening team spends time with you to prepare the store for opening, trains the new team and coaches new partners
The Bird HQ team are here to provide you with the ongoing support and training that you will need to ensure the continuous success of your restaurant. Our talented marketing and operations teams are readily available to work with you to ensure your restaurant not only succeeds but thrives in a competitive market. From creating creative local area marketing strategies to upskilling your front of house team to increase average spend, our experienced team is here to provide you with support to succeed!
