Cookie Time’s average franchisee tenure is 10+ years, so it’s not every day that an opportunity opens up. ‘When it does, there are a lot of good reasons to join us,’ says Dawn.

Dawn’s own story is testament to the Cookie Time culture. ‘I was a very successful Cookie Time franchisee in South Auckland for 17 years – that gave me first-hand experience of the Cookie Time culture and incredible growth potential. Then I was looking for a new challenge, my vision for network growth aligned with the head office mission, and I moved into my current role.’
Dawn counts herself fortunate to be part of the Cookie Time family. ‘Cookie Time is one of my biggest successes in life and I love the culture, values and support but, above all, the people. I love that I now get to share my experience and expertise with all our franchisees.’

Cookie Time was founded in February 1983 with the delivery of 70 jars of Cookie Time Original Chocolate Chunk cookies to 70 Christchurch stores. Today, the company is New Zealand’s most trusted cookies brand.
Entrepreneurship and innovation are in the company’s DNA, and it leads the way in snacking and functional foods with Bumper and OSM (One Square Meal). Market trends, from rapid growth in plant-based eating through to demand for products made with ‘real’ ingredients, fuel ongoing new product development.
Dawn says Cookie Time takes its iconic Kiwi business status seriously. ‘All our products are proudly made in New Zealand, and the company is committed to sustainable business practices. We’re also proud to have recently launched our first compostable packaging.’
Giving back is also important, through ongoing support for KidsCan and other charity partners, and for the Cookie Time Charitable Trust, with more than $2 million raised to date to help New Zealand children discover their gifts.
Training and investment
Dawn says the franchise purchase process is relatively simple, including a discovery day with a franchisee and a visit to Cookie Time head office. ‘Once you are accepted, we then train you in everything you need to know. Whilst FMCG industry experience would be a bonus, what we really value are effective communicators with a growth mindset and a passion for genuine interactions,’ she says.
Investment levels vary according to location, but typically vary from $100-150,000, including goodwill, a one-off admin fee, purchase of a Toyota Hiace van (or similar as approved by Cookie Time) and additional sundries to run your business (iPad, uniform and home office set-up).
