Dream Doors franchisees transfer management skills into a business of their own
After 20 years in the supply chain industry both Matt and Trevyna Santry felt in need of a change. Having a new kitchen installed made them think about the opportunities, and when they discovered the Dream Doors franchise they decided to go for it.
‘Although it was a major plunge away from salaried jobs, we felt we would have a whole franchise system behind us, together with a lot of very helpful and experienced franchisees,’ says Matt. ‘In management jobs the stress level can be considerable, not to mention the risk of redundancy – well, we have a different kind of stress now but it is our business and we are working for us!’
Dream Doors franchisees manage the refurbishment of kitchens and bathrooms, keeping perfectly serviceable joinery and updating the look with new doors and fittings. It’s a process that saves homeowners time, money and disruption, not to mention reducing landfill, and has been hugely successful. There are 10 busy franchisees throughout the country, and the franchise is seeking enterprising people with sales and management ability to fill the gaps.
Systems to succeed
A major tool in the Dream Doors tool kit is the unique Franchise Management System (FMS) which tracks leads and revenues, measures advertising effectiveness, collects and monitors customer feedback and can identify potential issues for the franchise support team.
‘It also enables franchisees to do on-site, real-time quotations,’ explains franchisor Derek Lilly. ‘They can go to a client, discuss their needs, enter the data and give them a quote within five minutes. It’s a very good system that makes many tasks much easier and enables us to be more efficient. During Level 4, franchisees were even able to offer online consultations and quotes to keep their business moving.’
Matt and Trevyna say the FMS has enabled them to build a really good business using tried and tested methods. ‘It all works – with the weekly calls to Derek and speaking to other franchisees we did better than we budgeted for in our first year. This year also started very well – until March! But people are still investing in their homes today, especially when they realise that for a very reasonable outlay they can have a brand new kitchen or bathroom. The kitchen is the heart and soul of any house, and making people happy is one of the best things we do.’
Derek agrees. ‘If you have the skills and ability to run your own business, look no further than Dream Doors. With 20 years of international success in 4 countries, and with the company founder living and training everyone here in NZ, your chances of success are much higher. Contact me today.’
