Pack & Send takes the smart route to attracting clients and building franchisees’ businesses
It’s only been three weeks, but this franchise is already ticking all the boxes for me,’ says Rita Krishna of Pack & Send in Manukau. ‘Opening a new business is never easy but Pack & Send’s award-winning system is already proving its worth. On my first day of operation I had a host of enquiries and business is growing fast. It’s probably the best decision I’ve ever made!’
After a long career in hospitality, and then taking a couple of years out to have her daughter, Rita went on to complete a Diploma in Shipping & Freight at MIT. ‘I wanted to be in an industry which was never going to die out,’ she explains. ‘It was a big change from hospitality, but as soon as I got my Diploma I was immediately employed by a freight-forwarding firm at Auckland Airport and got to know the logistics industry from the inside. I’ve always had a dream of working for myself, so I ordered a free copy of Franchise New Zealand magazine and found Pack & Send. The model appealed immediately.’
great systems plus great people
Launched in New Zealand in 2008, Pack & Send initially specialised in sending Fragile, Large, Awkward or Valuable (FLAV) items both at home and overseas. Franchisees operate from retail premises, with a van enabling them to collect items from private or commercial customers such as online retailers and galleries or auction houses. The company’s growing reputation in these sectors enabled it to move smoothly into other freight categories requiring top quality service such as IT equipment, which has become a staple.
‘Making smart use of technology and the internet, and combining innovative systems with great people on the ground is key to Pack & Send’s success,’ explains NZ franchisor Matthew Everest. ‘For example, we’ve developed a platform that will integrate with any system used by any courier company. This means that things like pricing, track and trace, bar coding and consignments can be read commonly so clients and franchisees have real-time information on any item.
‘Also, a new online self-service system called Book & Pay will enable customers to book online and weigh, measure and pack their parcels from anywhere. We can collect, or customers can bring them into their local store. It’s ideal for individuals selling items online, for example, and provides a valuable additional passive income stream for franchisees.’
The use of technology extends to helping franchisees build businesses, as Rita has quickly discovered. ‘Pack & Send has developed a leading-edge software package called GMx which processes consignments, sends business leads to each store and saves a lot of time in costing,’ Rita explains. ‘It’s easy-to-use and you certainly don’t need to be tech savvy or have a degree in logistics.
‘All these things add up, along with the brand, to a great business model, but I think what I’ve loved most of all about joining Pack & Send has been the massive support that has been given to me throughout the whole process. The franchise support team are total professionals; they are available whenever I need help and have answered every question I’ve ever had. I’m very glad I chose Pack & Send.’
Pack & Send franchisees come from all walks of life, and the business especially suits couples or entrepreneurs with minimal staff. ‘An investment of $210,000 +gst provides a turnkey operation including everything from finding your premises and training to systems, initial stock and fit-out,’ says Matthew.
‘Best of all, we’ve introduced a Trackable Brand Lead Guarantee which is designed to give franchisees confidence. Very simply, it guarantees a minimum quantity of trackable leads in the first year, providing a solid base of prospective customers contacting your store from opening day for you to convert into paying customers. With the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’ll be getting the leads, you can relax and focus on giving the level of service that will convert them into paying customers – and, as a result, build your business much more quickly. We have opportunities all over the country so contact me to find out more.’
