The Coffee Guy franchisees can go where the business is

When Jo Lawler bought her franchise for The Coffee Guy in the Christchurch suburb of Hornby, she couldn’t know just how good a decision she’d made. She started running the business in October, but it was after the major earthquake of February 22 that sales really took off. Hornby began to fill up with businesses forced out of the CBD and she has since been run off her feet providing much-needed espresso to the red zone refugees.

‘Of course it’s the last way you’d want to gain new customers but Hornby was just an industrial zone before and so there were few cafés,’ Jo explains. ‘Taking great coffee to people’s workplaces is what The Coffee Guy was created for, so I have found that people are pleased to see me wherever I go.

Jo spent 15 years as a courier before joining The Coffee Guy. ‘I was looking for something where I could invest in myself and I’ve always had a passion for coffee. The Coffee Guy made financial sense, too - my Dad is a Chief Financial Officer, so when he was comfortable that it was a good business proposition I felt safe. Frankly, it has been the best move I ever made. I’m doing really well working five days a week, but there are so many events at weekends which offer the cream on top. That’s especially true because The Coffee Guy charge only a flat fee and not a percentage, so as the business grows it’s all profit.’

The mobile nature of Jo’s business means that her courier experience comes in handy, ‘But I enjoy far more interaction with my customers – it doesn’t feel like work at all! It’s great to be able to share a cuppa with people and lighten up their day. The franchise has been brilliant too – they train you and accompany you until you really feel confident on your own, and the great thing about Christchurch is that all we franchisees help each other like a family so there’s always others I can call on too.’

Affordable Packages

The Coffee Guy is experiencing growing demand all over the country. ‘People’s thirst for coffee knows no bounds, which is why we are constantly looking for new franchisees nationwide,’ says franchisor Richard Karam.

‘We offer two options: our mobile espresso vans at $89,950 and the newly-launched capsules at $49,950. We can provide a range of financial packages to make either option affordable for the right people. Give us a call and tell us where you’d like to have your own business. The Coffee Guy could be just what you’re looking for!’
