One of the most popular charity events of last year is back. SPCA Cupcake Day, which is in its tenth year, will officially take place on Monday 6 August, but The Coffee Club franchise is fundraising for an entire week to help animals in need.
From 30 July until 6 August, Kiwis can help the SPCA care for more than 46,000 abused, neglected animals, injured and abandoned animals by purchasing specially-made cupcakes in The Coffee Club cafes across the North and South Islands.
The Coffee Club will be selling colourful animal-themed cupcakes with all money going to the SPCA. The aim is to crack the $30,000 that The Coffee Club raised last year and help the SPCA hit their $320,000 target.
According to the 2017 Survey of Franchising, almost a quarter of all franchises in New Zealand contribute over $100,000 each to charities every year. We explored the reasons behind The Coffee Club’s support for Cupcake Day in this article last year
‘We’re very proud to be supporting SPCA Cupcake Day again,’ says Andy Lucas, Director of The Coffee Club. ‘We’re huge animal lovers and know that a lot of our customers are as well. It means a lot to be able to help vulnerable animals across New Zealand. Buying a cupcake is an easy way for our customers to join in and help a great cause while enjoying a sweet treat at the same time.’
SPCA CEO, Andrea Midgen welcomes the support for the event, and encourages everyone to get involved. ‘With the help of The Coffee Club and its customers, the SPCA will be able to provide vital care to neglected animals across New Zealand. As well as saving lives, the money from cupcake sales will be used to care for the animals in our shelters as they wait to find their forever home.’
Now in its tenth year, SPCA Cupcake Day is the SPCA’s fun, community-driven annual fundraiser, with all proceeds going towards protecting animals in need. Since 2009, supporters of the charity have raised more than $2.3million through the baking and selling of cupcakes and other treats.
