20 September - Kiwi franchisors and franchisees are encouraged to enter the Best Practice Competition
Whether you've entered the Westpac Franchise Awards or not, there's another oppportunity for franchisors and franchisees to shine in the Best Practice Competition being held as part of the build-up to the World Business Capability Congress taking place in Auckland from 5-7 December. The 20 best entries from New Zealand SMEs will receive a free registration to the Congress (worth $800) and the best overall entries will be invited to give a presentation at the Congress. Entry is open to all, whether members of the Franchise Association or not.
‘Every organisation is good at something,’ says Robin Mann, the chairman of the organising committee for the Congress. ‘Every organisation has strengths and weaknesses. What we want to know is, what does your organisation do well? Is it communication, teamwork, response time, customer service, marketing, branding, social responsibility, attention to detail, systems, leadership, governance, strategic planning, performance measurement, information technology, product development, innovation, employee retention or supplier relationships? What is helping your organisation to succeed and why? Get your colleagues together to think about this and enter your organisation into New Zealand’s Best Practice Competition.’
The competition has the support of a number of key institutions in New Zealand including Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development, Economic Development Agencies New Zealand, and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
Given their system-based approaches, franchisors and franchisees are especially suited to the competition, and anyone who has previously entered the Westpac New Zealand Franchise Awards will be familiar with many of the aspects. The Best Practice Competition competition merely requires you to complete a short online entry form by 15 October 2012. The best entries will be invited to give an 8 minute presentation at the Congress. Prizes will be given for the following categories:
- SME (less than 20 employees) – Best Practice Gold Award
- Large organisation (more than 20 employees) – Best Practice Gold Award
- International (for teams/organizations based outside NZ) – Best Practice Gold Award.
In addition, to the Best Practice Competition, there will be a special Global Benchmarking Award for organisations that have used benchmarking as a means to identify and implement best practices.
The World Business Capability Congress aims to make a real impact on helping organisations raise their business capability through “Driving Excellence > Innovation > Productivity > Export Growth”. The event will be knowledge-packed with over 100 presentations, 14 keynote speeches, the New Zealand Business Excellence Awards, and New Zealand’s Best Practice Competition with 20 or more organisations sharing their best practices. It offers a unique opportunity to network with local and international companies, and like-minded people, to discuss and create growth opportunities, to improve business performance and deliver better outcomes for all stakeholders thus benefiting New Zealand’s economy and society.
According to Robin Mann, ‘It is in effect a one-stop-shop for gaining the latest knowledge on all business areas from Leadership to Strategy, Customer Focus, Measurement to Knowledge Management, Human Resource Focus and Process Management.’
