MAKE TIME FOR FAMILY

Paramount Services gives you the opportunity to enjoy what is most important to you
When Shaileshni and Mukesh Singh purchased their Paramount Services franchise in Auckland last year, they were looking for a way to spend more time with their family. In the 12 months since, they’ve not only done that – they’ve grown a profitable business, as well.
‘I had worked in a supermarket for the last 10 years, but I was tired of working long hours and not having enough time with my family when I came home,’ Shaileshni explains. ‘A friend was a Paramount Services franchisee and encouraged us to look at the opportunity. I had always thought that if I were to go into business for myself, it would be in the restaurant industry, but after hearing so many good things about Paramount, I did some research. I soon realised that this could provide more flexibility along with the reliable income our family needed.’
Mukesh is an electrician, so the couple decided he should continue working while Shaileshni ran the business. ‘He works with me when he has the time, and our two children, Shayal and Ashitosh, help out when they’re not at university – it’s a real family affair. Of course, their studies always come first, but having their help has allowed us to take on more work without hiring other staff. Now I have more time and energy outside of work and I get to see my family during the day, too.’
Shaileshni’s personal high standards and focus on customer service have combined with the franchise’s systems to make her business an immediate success.
‘We started with 5 sites, and have already grown to 15 in our first year,’ she says. ‘Paramount’s training gave us the tools and skills we needed to do the work efficiently. One of the biggest keys to our success has been building relationships with both the franchise and with our clients. We were asked to take on several “at-risk” clients with premises needing some extra care and attention, and the satisfaction I’ve had from bringing these up to Paramount standards has been one of the highlights of our first year.’
‘Client communication also matters: we’re there to provide a service so the more open the lines of communication, the better understanding we have of their needs.’ These relationships are just as valued by clients, too. ‘I was so surprised at Christmas when some of my clients left little gifts for us with “thank you” notes. They already give me their business – I should be giving them a present, not the other way around!’
Shaileshni still works 6 days a week, but finds plenty of time for other things. ‘Twice a week I only work in the evening, so I still have the days to take care of my family. I never have to travel far – our clients are all in a 30-minute radius from home – and I enjoy being out and about after years of being inside a supermarket all day.
‘Going into business for ourselves has given us control of both our time and earnings. Our franchise still has room for growth, but we have the choice to say when we have enough work. At the moment we’re settled, working steadily to pay off business debt and our daughter’s upcoming wedding, but we have plans for further growth in the future. I may need to take on some more help in a couple of years, but our future son-in-law has already offered to jump in and join the family business.’
And Shaileshni is keen to extend her skills. ‘When I find time, I’m going to get my NZ Level 3 Cleaning certification and learn carpet cleaning, floor stripping and polishing. Paramount Services is very encouraging of my skill development, which helps us grow in our ability to take on more specialised work. The franchise creates an environment of constant support without feeling pushed or pressured. We have control over the pace, direction and development of our business.’
Shaileshni has already recommended the Paramount Services franchise system to friends, and Paul Brown of Paramount Services is keen to hear from anyone looking for the same advantages.
‘Shaileshni and Mukesh are the perfect example of a planned approach to having a franchise,’ he says. ‘They are a real family unit, and have made the most of the Paramount Services system which allows them to grow a successful business while also making time for what is most important to them.
‘Our franchises are safe and rewarding businesses for as little investment as $15,000 plus vehicle and equipment. We give you the training you need, find your first contracts to get you started, and even handle the billing and collection so you don’t have to chase money – you get paid on the 25th of the month, no matter what.’
‘We have opportunities all around New Zealand – including some very desirable areas outside the main cities. If Shaileshni’s story has inspired you, call me now.’
