The Franchising New Zealand survey will make a welcome return in 2017 to shed new light on the franchise sector. The survey will once again be organised by the Franchise Association of New Zealand, and conducted by Massey University in conjunction with the Asia Pacific Centre for Franchising Excellence at Griffith University in Brisbane

Previous surveys took place in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2010 and 2012.

‘It has been five years since the last survey showed that franchising contributes around $20 billion and over 100,000 jobs to the New Zealand economy,’ says Robyn Pickerill, the CEO of FANZ. ‘That was at a time when the Global Financial Crisis and the Canterbury earthquakes had both taken their toll on many sectors, so we look forward to seeing how the franchise sector has fared since 2012.

‘We have seen a lot of changes over the past few years as new franchises have emerged, existing ones have matured, and a number of mergers and acquisitions have taken place. Franchises have become big business, and big businesses have started franchising. We expect the 2017 survey to reflect this and to confirm New Zealand’s place as the most franchised country in the world.’

Robyn is urging franchisors to get behind the survey and take the time to complete the questionnaire when it is published in February.

‘The survey has massive ongoing value for the franchise sector,’ she points out. ‘Every franchisor seeking to educate potential franchisees about the credibility and professionalism of the franchise sector in New Zealand will be able to quote the figures the survey reveals. Every bank, accountant, consultant, lawyer and journalist looking for facts about franchising will quote its findings. And it will be a powerful tool for representing the franchise sector to government, ministries and law-makers.

‘The more franchisors participate, the more accurate and influential Franchising New Zealand 2017 will be so please, get behind the survey and help make it happen.’
