Most people buying a business want something that will weather the ups and downs of the economy. It’s also important that the work should provide lasting enjoyment, as well as lasting employment. That’s why it’s always worth looking to see how long franchisees stay with a business – and in the case of Touch Up Guys, that can be a very long time indeed. 

‘We’re approaching a quarter century here in New Zealand and several of our franchisees have been with us for over 20 years – one is even the son of an original franchisee!’ says NZ master franchisee Martin Smith. ‘That says a lot for how solid this business is. But we do have some gaps to fill, especially in the Wellington area, so we want to hear from potential operators right now.’

Touch Up Guys is a highly successful mobile business that repairs vehicles by removing stone chips, scratches, scuffs and other damage. There are over 130 Touch Up Guys franchisees in Australia and New Zealand, and the company expanded into the USA with great success in 2015. 

‘The number of cars is ever-increasing here and Touch Up Guys has proven very recession-proof over the years,’ says Martin. ‘The car yards and dealerships know they can add three or four figures to the value of their vehicles by making them look absolutely tip-top. This is where the skill of Touch Up Guys comes in, and why we get such a constant stream of work.’ 

Martin explains that franchisees don’t need experience, ‘But they do need an eye for colour, attention to detail and the ability to chat to people and sell their services. If you can do that, you can enjoy a business where every day is different and you’ll go from working on someone’s Mazda Familia one day to a $400,000 Aston Martin the next.’

‘There’s a lot of solid work available through the big dealerships and currently we are looking for new franchisees, male or female, for three big opportunities. 

‘The first is Hutt Valley where there’s room for two operators, or possibly one with sub-contractors, offering a big business. The other two are central Wellington and the Kapiti Coast. Each of these is a high-population, high socio-economic area with plenty of car yards and personal business, too. 

‘A complete Touch Up Guys package costs between $88,000 and $120,000 + gst depending on van leasing options. This includes a three-week training course on the Gold Coast. If you take pride in what you do, are reliable, like working with cars and want to live and work in the Wellington area, I want to hear from you – now!’
